Residual waste is a collective name for waste materials that
are unsuitable for recycling and are burned or dumped. Virol recommends a separate collection of waste wherever possible, because efficient applications of waste materials (like paper, wood, foils etc.) are generally cheaper than dumping or burning.
The waste is collected in various kinds and sizes of containers, such as roll containers, skips and press containers, for example.
The waste is separated as much as possible in the separation and processing plants at regional transfer and processing locations. By means of drum sieves, organic materials are separated from the materials that are to be transported to, and eventually burned in, an incineration plant. The organic material
is first washed and afterwards fermented in the fermentation reactors. In the course of this process, bio gases are extracted
and used to generate electricity and heat.
